Hot Tub FAQs

Buying a Hot Tub is for most people a once in a lifetime purchase. Its important to get it right.
Here at Cornish Hot Tubs we pride ourselves on assisting you in your purchase of your Hot Tub and ensure you get the right Tub for you.
  • How much does a Hot Tub cost to tub run?
A hot tub used approximately 4-5 times and week running at round 38°C should cost about a £1 - £1.50 per day
  • Do Hot Tubs use a lot of water?
Not really, once the Tub is filled that water stays in the Tub for about 90 days.
  • Will it take me a long time to maintain my Hot Tub?
    Weekly
maintenanceis required with cleaning filters and topping the water level up. Chemicals need to be added once you have used the Tub
  • Should I buy a Hot Tub / Spa / or Jacuzzi?
Hot Tubs and Spas are the same thing. Jacuzzi is a brand name. Most people refer either a Hot Tub or Spa. The original Hot Tub was made from a wooden barrel and heated by a wood burning fire. Modern Hot Tub / Spas are made of Acrylic which offers much more versatility when creating hydrotherapy seating positions.
  • How are the Hot Tub constructed?
The majority of manufactures use a 6mm acrylic sheet but some manufacturers only use 3mm.
The acrylic is vacuum thermoformed into the mould, which creates a seamless surface.

The composite strengthening material is then bonded to the back of the shell using a special 4-stage process, each layer is hand rolled. Most manufactures then spray high-density foam to the shell to provide heat and sound insulation. This process produces very strong self supporting shell the backing material and the acrylic expand at similar rates so are less likely to delaminate than other systems. This is the reason some manufactures off a lifetime warranty on the integrity of the shell. The spa shell then has the jet apertures drilled, usually by hand and the spa is then plumbed. The Cabinets are then fitted either low maintenance PCV or traditional wood, whichever your prefer. This is then followed by the base which is in most cases an ABS base that completely envelopes the base of the spa, preventing rodents and insects from entering and stopping rainwater from rotting the support frame for the cabinet. The equipment and controls are then added. The spa is then thoroughly tested to ensure every part is fully functional. (Testing takes a minimum of 48 hours).
  • Are Hot Tubs / Spas designed for indoor or outdoor use?
The top lip of a hot tub extends beyond the cabinet - similar to your roof overhanging the walls. This important feature ensures that they are ideally suited to outdoor as well as indoor use. Hot tubs look great either indoors or out although it is fair to say that most are installed outdoors.
  • If I move home after buying my hot tub, can I take it with me?
    H
ot tubs / Spas are portable enabling you to relocate it. We have some customers who choose to use the hot tub indoors in the winter and outdoors in the summer. But if you do move house and want to take your hot tub with you, using our specialist equipment we can assist you in moving your hot tub to your new home. Most people, however, sell the hot tub with their old house and buy a replacement for their new home.
  • How often should I change the filters?
You don't need to change the filters that often. We do recommend that the filters are taken out and cleaned every 2 weeks or more, depending on use. The filters are best cleaned using our Cartridge Cleaner and left to soak overnight and then simply rinsed with a garden hose before re-fitting. We recommend that the filters are replaced by new every 12 months.
  • Does my hot tub need a special base?
You must remember that your hot tub when full of water and people will be very heavy so we do not recommend that it is placed directly onto grass. If you have an existing well-constructed flat and level patio area your new hot tub should sit on it without any problems. If not, we recommend a concrete base, approximately 2" to 3" bigger all-round than the hot tub and approximately 4" thick.
